Fixing an I.H. LA/LB Fuel Tank - Page 2

The fuel line/check valve had been "messed" with sometime in the past and a new on was required.

On the left is a 6-inch piece of 1/4-inch copper tube, the three pieces to the right of the tube make up a "1/4 compression Male Adapter", above the tube are the nut and ferrule comprising a "1/4-inch male (or inverted) ferrule fitting. I elected to use a Nylon ferrule for the carburetor connection. At left, top is the factory carburetor connection and left, bottom, is the factory check valve. The Male Adapter needs modified for it's intended use as a "pass-thru" or bulkhead fitting.

The main body of the adapter is held in a vise and an "F" size drill is run through. If you are using a brass fitting like this, be sure to hold it in a vise, as the brass may "grab" the drill and make a mess of things.

Above can be seen all the fittings in place. In the lower right is the check ball and check-valve body. The ball is put into the body, the body slid over the end of the copper tube, and soldered in place.
