Trigger Loop Narrowing

This isn't a "How To" article, but rather just an example of a nice "touch" to a Sporterized Mauser.

The Mauser trigger loop seems overly wide and clumsy, and characteristic of many military rifles. If metal is removed, equally, from both sides of the loop, a cleaner, neater appearance is obtained.

Here is the unmodified loop on the left and the narrowed loop on the right. I just removed 0.100-inches from each side. I used a mill and 0.100 is one full turn of the handle J . It looks like something less than 1/8-inch from each side would do.

Annother view. I have rounded the loop where it joins the strap, but prefer the "square" look shown. It's a matter of personal taste. The metal can be removed with a Dremel tool or a file/hacksaw just as well.

Annother pic.

The last pic.
